What are the prospects for William and Rachael’s wedding?

A Trump reading by Havelock given as a wedding present.

Significator, where you are now     The Lovers: a time of choice between old and new, based on intuition and inspiration rather than intellect and reason. The card can also reflect actual lovers and in this instance it almost certainly reflects William’s choice to part from his grandmother to marry Rachael

Aspirator, where you are aiming     2 of Cups: love, emotional affinity, understanding, sympathy, joyous harmony, the reconciliation of opposites in mutual trust and fealty. Friendship, co-operation, the signing of a treaty; the end of a feud or rivalry – it can also indicate a team of 2 people acting in unison

Instigator, what brought you here High Priestess: the revealing of hidden knowledge which brings strength and hope; intuitive insight into problems which will suggest new solutions. The card may indicate a woman who is wise or inspired – especially a virgin or spinster with knowledge or spiritual powers.

Cryptic, hidden influences              The Sun (reversed): misjudgement that ends in failure and ignominy; the exposure of one who has succeeded by doubtful means; fantasies of success replacing real attainment – vanity, empty boasting, arrogance and egotism

Event 1                                         8 of Wands: hopeful change, movement and activity; the ending of delays and a quickening of events. Suggests a suitable time for taking the initiative, acting with courage and confidence to grasp opportunities as they occur. Important journeys are indicated

Event 2                                         Judgement (reversed): loss, guilt, reproach for wasted opportunities or punishment for failure; justified retribution; the Angel of the Last Trump

Event 3                                         The Devil: indicates the need to sublimate energy from the lower self into usable power or it may show that hidden forces are at work which must be taken into account – it can represent occult, magical or other supernatural powers – or it could be an actual devil

Event 4                                         3 of Cups: great happiness resulting from a marriage or a birth; the fruition of something conceived with love. This card represents maternity, abundant fertility, comfort, solicitation, trust, harmony, felicity and the healing of ills

Culminator, where this is heading   The World: the final and successful completion of the matter in hand; the summing up of a question or a series of incidents; a culmination of events; the ending of one cycle of destiny and the start of another

Pivot, the focus                             The Star: Hope, faith, trust; insight into future possibilities, offering hope and fulfilment; a widening of horizons, physical or mental; new life and vigour appearing as a gift from the gods; inspiration and revelation from the gods – a light in the dark; (reversed): rigidity of mind which cannot expand beyond its familiar boundaries to take in new opportunities for progress; the inability or reluctance to widen one’s world view; self-doubt; lack of trust – misuse of a god-given gift or a refusal of that gift; pessimism, loss of hope, depression

An awesome spread – 7 Major Arcana! The Significator can be taken at its absolute most literal. The Aspirator speaks for itself and Havelock is sure the High Priestess is an actual person.

The Sun reversed as the Cryptic is baffling but Havelock gets the feeling that it represents a real person – who must be extraordinary or the card would be a court or minor card.

The first event seems clear enough, tallying with Havelock’s own reading, but the subsequent two cards, Judgement and The Devil hint at individuals, and Havelock cannot help but be reminded of Rachael’s winged form. The final event strongly hints at a family.

The World as Culminator seems auspicious enough but the Star as the Pivot is harder to gauge – which particular gift or gifts? And which gods?
