Numinosity
The Power of Divine
Godhead for Amber DRPG
Numinosity is the power of godhead. In essence the god draws power from the worship of mortals; the
more worshippers in a shadow, the more powerful the god – hence their tendency
to jealousy. The nature of the powers gained, of course, depends on the
aspect of the god: Bacchus would have powers of drunkenness and debauchery,
Zeus could hurl thunderbolts and shapeshift in to a myriad different forms (primarily with the intent of impregnating
fleeing females).
The
downside of Numinosity is that precisely because the
god draws power from her worshippers, the very nature of their worship can come
to define the god. When the worship attains ‘cross-shadow’ magnitude, they are
powerful all over shadow but their worship will vary from place to place, and
the worship tends to evolve to place control over the god.
And
if that worship reaches Amber, then the family may control the flock, and
thereby the god…
