The Rapture Screams, part
1
Extracts
from the Diary of
There was a call
from MI13 demanding that I attend the office. Strangely I did not recognise the
caller. Being suspicious, I phoned around. Finally managed to
get Elliott, on the phone. He tells me that MI13 is disbanded.
I phoned the
office again to check that they will actually pay me if I go. I am told, “Just
get here pronto”, which I take as ‘No’. I told them I would not be coming
unless paid. They replied without even a decent pretence at sincerity that they
would pay me. I demanded payment in advance. They replied that if I didn't go
to return the pager, I would be arrested for stealing it.
As I was on the
bus to
I was half
expecting a visitation for a ‘debrief’, but they never came.
Received an invitation to Lionel Woodthorpe's funeral. I really cannot afford to go. Jules and I wrote a letter of condolence.
I
was out in the Henge doing my parish council funded
litter picking, when Belinda Durham accosted me. She introduced Emily Parker, a
lady who strikes me as to some degree sensitive. I invited them back to the
van.
Apparently they
have need of the spell ‘Evocation of the Damned’’ that I learnt in the
Jules was not at
all keen on my going away, especially as she clearly does not believe my
assurances that it isn't dangerous. Nevertheless she accepts as we really do
need the money.
It
took us pretty well the whole day to travel to Drummond House in Cliffside, the
late Lionel's home. The current resident is Lucinda Grady, Lionel's
granddaughter, and her husband Thomas. It is her 18 years dead sister Sophie
that they intend to cast the Evocation on. This is part of a scheme to
rescue her from Yog-Sothoth's clutches. This sounds a
noble cause but a risky one. I will be glad to be 500 miles away when they try
it.
Embarked on teaching Emily Parker and
Freddy Wincanton the ‘Evocation of the Damned”.
It
has been a very pleasant week really. It is a comfortable place, good food. I
think both Emily and Freddy have mastered the spell; I am as sure as I can be
without their actually casting it. Freddy wants also wants to learn ‘Command
Ghost’, so I have another week's work.
Freddie
has had no problem with Command Ghost, so I can go home tomorrow. For
two weeks work, I had been hoping for £2,000 while expecting that I would
actually paid rather less. I was astonished when Freddie decided I should be
paid double for the first week, as I had two pupils, and I was given £3,000.
Pretty ghastly journey. Two hour drive to
Arrived mid-morning. Jules was relieved to see me but frankly
suspicious about the amount of money. I had to go into a little more detail
than I would have liked. She ultimately decides that it is all okay.
We will be very
busy over the next few weeks fixing everything that we have put off fixing
because we couldn't afford it.
I am also going
to call this mysterious Mr. Green, that I heard about
